Day 3: Trocadero by Rusly Tjohnardi

Cheyqua in JFW 2008 — August 28th, 2008 (52 views / Print this article )

Day 3: Streetsnap 02, Jakarta Fashion Week

Cheyqua in JFW 2008, Street Snap — August 27th, 2008 (360 views / Print this article )

Somehow we can always tell that someone is working in fashion industry by their outfits. There’s no need to deny it, if you live in the fashion world, you’ll have a touch of fashion in your look. Well if you live in the fashion world and hate to look fashionable, are you sure you are really into fashion?

The Faces of Jakarta Fashion Week

Koukla in Face Escentials, JFW 2008 — August 27th, 2008 (151 views / Print this article )

Apart from looking at the beautiful clothes and the gorgeous shoes, the one thing I enjoy most from Jakarta Fashion Week was of course the makeup! As usual, most designers tried to translate the concept of their design into the faces of the model so we’re here to show you some of the most interesting ones.

Rusly Tjohnardi, who came in and surprised everyone with his far-from-usual display of beads and pastel palettes, went artistic with the makeup choosing an intricate design around the eyes and blue (yes blue!) lipstick.

L.E.S Fashion Flipside 2008

DYS in Street Snap, Streetstyle — August 26th, 2008 (293 views / Print this article )

While Jakarta is having its own fashion week, in New York right on our independence day of August 17th, there was a street fashion show featuring collections from several stores and boutiques around Lower East Side (L.E.S). New York fashion week itself will be starting really soon in September. Lower East Side is a neighborhood in the southeastern part of New York City, home to numerous contemporary art galleries, independent designers’ boutiques, vintage stores, and hip restaurants and lounges.

This year, L.E.S. Fashion Flipside is going green *the theme that everyone seems to be having lately ;p*. The fashion show is mostly focusing on eco-friendly and vintage clothing from numerous local brands including David Owen’s Vintage, Kaight, Lolli By Reincarnation, Hairy Mary’s Vintage, Moo Shoes and fetish apparel from Demask.

Day 3: Metamorphosis, SPOUS by Priyo Oktaviano

Hanzky in JFW 2008 — August 25th, 2008 (236 views / Print this article )

Priyo just proved that even if you have that ‘dark’ side of you who love mohawk-ish updo, chocker, statement necklace, stack of bold bangles and tough looking shoes, you can still incorporate soft fabric materials into your wardrobe without losing your true identity. With the right choice of colors (beige, copper and different kind of brown), the airy fabrics fit the whole look perfectly. And if these kinds of look don’t suit you, you just need to change the attributes into something less edgy.

Priyo loves butterfly, no wonder that he got his inspiration for this collection from butterfly as well as other insects like grasshopper, bee and cockroach. Eww, I know, “Cockroach?”, you asked. Well, in Priyo’s hands, the cockroach’s anatomy can easily be transformed into beautiful dresses. If you take a look at the collection one by one, the inspiration is apparent from the cutting, the drapery and the volume on the sleeves that resemble cockroach’s wings.

Day 2: Hijab Chic

Hanzky in JFW 2008 — August 24th, 2008 (385 views / Print this article )

I was, ehm, fashionably late, on the second day so I didn’t get to see the show from the very beginning. I missed Merry Pramono and Monika Jufry show. I have to admit that I cannot sketch worth a dime, even if my life is depended on it, not even babies clothes, let alone Moslem wear that I believe is harder to design. For one there’s a limit as to what you can design even though there’s more fabrics involved since it has to be loose and cover the majority of your skin. Some designers also provide the matching veil along with the whole outfit. After that, you still have to play around with the print, the colors, the look, wondering if you should add ruffle, lace, bow or embroidery appliqué or maybe nothing at all? See, it’s easy to go either too simple or too much. From the ones I saw, I like Hanie Hananto’s modern geometric detail, although the last one looks kinda apronish to me..:D and Jeanny Tjahyawatie’s color palettes with tenun detail implanted. Anne Rufaidah’s design in here is too sweet for my taste, the ruffle pants only make it worse since there’s already many things going on at the top.
