Yay or Nay: Chanel Boy

We all love Chanel. Signified by its timelessness, quality leather and wearability, Chanel is just one classic brand. Its strongest bag lineup is still its classic line – with its variety of leather, size and hardware. The seasonal line, however, gets me more on the mixed feeling.

Chanel’s newest seasonal craze is the Chanel Boy. Its first release comes out with classic Chanel palette – black, red, gray and beige. Newer releases of Chanel Boy deliver different textures, combination of colors and/or strap size and material. With its long, chunky chain, Chanel Boy can worn on the shoulder or cross-body. I can see faint resemblance to Chanel’s classic line – the square shape and gold chain – while being trendier and more chic, especially in comparison to Chanel’s seasonal releases in the past. While I gravitate to more structured bags, I am undecided on the seemingly rigid shape of Chanel Boy.

I can’t say I’m at all in love with the over-the-top variation of the Chanel Boy, such as the “Versaille-inspired” one on the bottom right square (really, Chanel?). But I’m still on the fence on the more demure ones.

What do you think of Chanel Boy?

The Next It Bag: Céline Edge

Ladies, I am loving that Céline is still on a roll in 2013! They will continue to release more combinations of  bags from 2011-2012 – the Luggage, Trapeze, Cabas – while going strong with new lines. All while maintaining its signature of the chic, sleek and clean silhouette.

The Céline Edge catches my eye because of its size and shape that scream practicality. I’m a sucker for big bags that you can carry comfortably without sacrificing style. With its trapezoid shape, wide strap, the flexible-but-not-slouchy structure, Céline Edge is up my alley. I can see this as my workhorse everyday bag, including when traveling.

Fashion Watch: Prabal Gurung for Target!

We always welcome high-end designer collaboration with everyday retailer! One of the first (if not the first) designer collaborations that create a buzz this year is Prabal Gurung for Target collection, set to launch on February 10, just in time for Valentine’s Day.

ELLE fashion magazine has the exclusive preview of the clothing pieces and accessories that are going to be available at Target in the United States. The Nepali American designer is taking cues from the love-themed launch date, with some floral prints and feminine cuts. Although, I should say that I am happy to report that the floral motif is not cliché – the prints are more abstract, and not very literal. The pieces are wearable and affordable. This collection features a lot of dresses and bottoms, along with blouses and outerwear. We are also psyched to report that there will be some accessories and shoes as well!

Here we will showcase some of our picks from the sneak preview. For the full preview, head over to Elle. I am eyeing the ruffle dress in Sulfur Spring, long sleeve tee in Floral Crush print, and the pointy toe flats in Nolita prints, and (all of) the bangles!

The color palette is fresh, with a lot of lime hues, alongside colorful abstract floral prints

Investment You Should Make: Well-Tailored Pants

Some time ago, I was asked by a good friend of mine to be her personal shopper – a task that I love to do, any day. She had been dissatisfied by her work wardrobe and thought that it was time to haul the selection of her Monday to Friday pieces. We spent a whole day scouring Grand Indonesia shopping mall. We were able to snatch several blouses, a conservative and structured work bag in black, a pair of work-appropriate flats (she just recovered from a broken leg, so she is not allowed to wear heels), accessories, and of course, pants – two pairs of them, which are the most expensive pieces of the haul.

A pair of well-made pants go a long way. From the workplace during the day, to a date night in the evening. From a conservative blouse to a playful top. If you have to splurge on anything in your wardrobe, then this is it. A well-tailored trousers will rack up miles of usage, and you’ll actually get the most bank for your buck!

1. Baggage in the trunk

I find that pants with slight flare work best for those of you with baggage in the trunk. They don’t draw much attention to your bottom , and work with your proportion better than skinny or skin-tight cuts.
