I’ve actually had this tenun Makassar for quite a while from Syita during her trip there last year. However, the fabric was abandoned in the corner of my closet for months because I haven’t had any idea of what to make of it. I mean, look at the pattern and color. It’s so pretty right? I, of course, wouldn’t want to make it into the wrong type of clothes that I could not wear.

Then one day I talked to Maya, our Digital Account Executive who likes to draw and design clothes and she suggested that I make a skirt from the fabric. She even helped in drawing it so I can give it to the seamster.

And voila.. a week later I have this pretty colorful skirt that becomes my current favorite outfit

Unbranded shirt | Kle jacket | Custom made skirt from tenun Makassar | Marks & Spencer pantyhose | Buttercup shoes | Swatch watch | Kate Spade bag

Imagine a secluded place, hidden in the middle of lush and green surrounding. Away from the hustle and bustle of the city life and the maddening crowd. With the forest line and the friendly sunlight pouring lightly wherever you are. The ‘village’ that was created by Kleting‘s imagination, where children play freely, exploring their surroundings and blend into nature.

Deeply inspired by nature, Kleting with her label KLE, charmingly presented her ready to wear Spring/Summer 2013 collection during Jakarta Fashion Week 2013 day 2, Sunday November 4th 2012. The images of playful girls are delightfully translated into models’ loose braided hair, colorful ribbon attached casually as accessories, and some ‘happy’ face painting. “If this reminds you of war paint wear by native American or Pocahontas look, then in my show, they’re called ‘happy face painting’, to symbolize their fun, explorative and peaceful mind. They like to have fun with colors, they embrace Mother Earth colors,” explained Kleting.

The collection is highlighted by loose cutting, drapery, high waist pants and full skirts. The loose fitting is also KLE’s distinguished signature. To emphasize the native touch, she uses Ikat-printed fabric, and putting them as some heavy lining, tops, obi belt, collar, and other touch to accentuate her inspiration.

So casual and peaceful, this collection inspires us to get closer to the nature. To be more laid back, to keep thinking positively in life, and respect nature. Do you think Kleting brings this idea successfully? Yes, we think she does! Upon seeing through the whole collection, it is stuck in my mind with her ideas of embracing nature.

If you’ve read Leija’s “Boy Crazy: Part 2” article, the easiest item to instil to your style to create a touch of androgyny look is by using men’s watch. I personally always prefer men’s watches – as you can seen here and here - because they look bolder, don’t look as fragile as women’s watch and usually more shock resistant. I’m not the most careful person when it comes to watch, so usually the one that lasts me for some time are men’s watches. It also suits well with my habit of stacking bracelet.

Very recently, I got myself a new pair of watch, I was thinking something with a rubber band so that it’s going to be more sweat-proof and not as formal as a chained band watch. I came across Timberland watches, which is water resistant and said to be a very sturdy one. After I browsed around the Timberland Watch site, I finally chose Timberland Radler Performance Watch, which came in variety of interesting colours. Was eyeing these three colours below.

When I tried them on, it fits nicely even on my small wrist. And it suits perfectly fine with my style

Top: (X) S.M.L.
Pants: Unbranded
Jacket: Kle
Bag: Longchamp Planetes
Necklace: (X) S.M.L
Shoes: Aldo

Which colours I ended up getting? It’s the black one, because I thought it’s more versatile for an everyday watch.

Unbranded ID Bracelet and my new Timberland Radler Performance Watch in Black, the etching of Timberland tree on the inside of the watch is my favourite part

What do you usually do on a Saturday? I’m trying to think of my previous life, that is before I decided to run my own business and have a family and I’m actually struggling to remember what my Saturdays as a single woman were like. I know that there were a good deal of meeting with friends at bars or clubs or going to concerts, festivals and other cool events. I think I also remember vaguely that I used to go to a bookstore all by myself and just browsed and read for hours and hours until it was time to meet my friends for dinner. Oh the luxury!

Nowadays, I still go to the mall or events on a Saturday, but for very different reasons because they usually mean work. When I don’t have to work, I spend my Saturdays at home with my little girl baking or watching DVDs together, or visiting her grandparents or other family members. It doesn’t sound too exciting, but I actually enjoy it because it balances my super hectic weekdays. Plus spending the whole day with my daughter is a precious time I seem to be getting less and less lately. So even though it’s quite different from when I was still single, I would consider it as the perfect Saturday.

Last Saturday, I had to attend an event at Pacific Place. I never could tell how you should dress when the invitation looks formal but the event is held in a mall. Not wanting to overdress (it was a Saturday after all), I decided to wear a semi formal blazer with a pair of jeans. They were a good choice because the other attendees were also in jeans.

KLE blazer

Body & Soul tanktop

Cotton Ink Krey shawl in Fire

Unbranded jeans

Pedro heels

Ciciero clutch

On my wrists: Casio Data Bank in Gold, vintage bangle I got from Portobello market, XSML bracelet, Energy muse amethyst bracelet and carnelian bracelet from Shambala.

Isn’t the clutch cute? I love that the texture of the material actually matches my shoes, even though I got them separately. This clutch is not yet available in Ciciero website but it will be soon! It’s also available in brown.

If you remember about Tribute to Friends event that we posted here, amidst our busy end of year schedule that day we spared a time to come to the event because of the lineup of new talents that we might see there. Sure you’ll find designers such as Kle, Hunting Fields, Nikicio and Janeville there. But there were also new one that such as STAB that was part of the Cleo Fashion Award as well as Vahada which won an award for Most Talented Designer.

There were also One and a Half, Pard and Satcas and Sash that stock pieces with casual style that you can use day in day out. Retail Therapy with their latest collection, especially the drool-worthy clogs inspired shoes. I also spotted the clogs at Douche, seemed like we’re going to still see this trend for a while.

Lines of promising designers continue. Argyle Oxford showcased its collection in which you could find various pastel colors and tassel details here and there. Sister Brain‘s offered comfortable basic pieces but still adorned with various ornaments. I understand that we can’t expect too much in menswear variety. But THRUNK was an exception; it showed that man’s basic attire can be playful too in a selection of styles for work, casual day out and evening pairs. Never Understand, Terror, Tru, Utee 2010 also available to added your choice in shopping.

More importantly, this event also marked the start of Tribute end of season clearance sale. It’s really possible for you to find some labels cutting off their item price up to 75 percent. So next time no matter how busy you are, don’t forget to note Tribute to Friends in your to-do list.

Cleo Fashion Awards is perhaps one of the most anticipated shows held during Jakarta Fashion Week because we get to see the brightest young Indonesian designers/fashion labels present their creativity.

Every year, Cleo awarded fashion labels, both local and international, in different categories (The”It” Bag, the Most perfect jeans, The Best Work Wear, to name a few). Apart from those, Cleo magazine also gave recogniton to new talents through ‘Most Innovative Local Brand’ and ‘Most Talented Designer’. These titles were given to Cotton Ink and Dina Vahada respectively. I must say, after seeing how the brand grew for the past few years and having bought a lot of items from them, I felt a sense of joy to hear Cotton Ink won the award. They truly deserved it. Congrats again Carline and Ria!

Anyway, on to the show. It opened with a parade of models wearing Danjyo Hiyoji‘s latest collection. Their collection, with its play of layering, draping and twisting in various shades of pastel, was surely a crowd-pleaser. Worth noted were their wide-legged, billowy pants which they balanced nicely with structured jackets. Besides Danjyo Hyoji, Kle also showcased her collection as last year’s winner of Cleo Fashion Awards. Some of the models walked out with a small cardboard taped to their heads and written on it were some thought-provoking statements. I didn’t have a chance to talk to Kleting and ask her what those writings were supposed to mean, but I think guessing is part of the fun About the collection itself, luckily there was no need to guess. They were beautifully done and perfectly styled. Loose capes and jackets layered with little tops and paired with slouchy pants. Slinky dresses in beautiful printed fabrics. I also loved the shades she chose for the collection, which were taupe, olive green and stunning turquoise.

Danjyo Hiyoji

KlE

We also saw 4 new labels who presented their creations that night. Resida Irmine, who dressed her models in stylish, ready-to-wear outfits dominated by black and white. Resida was followed by Vahada, who surprised the guests by presenting the models on stage all at once, all clutching an open black umbrella. Practical magic was the theme of the collection and we saw a lot of pieces using black lace. But if lace is usually associated with something feminine, Vahada’s collection had a mysterious and sinister feel to it.

Resida & Vahada

Astrid was next to showcase her collection inspired by the underwater world, which she translated through the use of fabric with marine-life prints. After that, we feasted our eyes with Cotton Ink’s latest collection. They definitely stayed true to the brand’s signature style – laid-back, wearable, comfortable pieces that you can see yourself wearing day in and day out. But that’s not to say there weren’t many items to lust over. We think the jackets. maxi dresses with drape front detail and jumpsuit with wide-legged pants are going to sell out fast in their webstore when it launches.

Astrid

Cotton Ink

STAB (Stare A Bit) got their chance to show what the brand is all about. The chosen music, the way the models were styled (bringing some kids toys wearing knee-high socks) showed their playful identity and lightened up the whole mood. Especially when a male model showed up in a pink jumpsuit Moving on from the lollipop and toys, Noonio brought us to the Sahara with their collection which was inspired by the desert. It was a classic safari look with added modern twist with breezy white tops matched with skirts or bottoms in neutral hues. It was really refreshing to see a designer that doesn’t try too hard or too much but still able to create beautiful, wearable pieces.

STAB & Noonio

Last, but certainly not the least, Twentyforteen models showed up wearing chic, Retro-inspired swimsuits covered by a see-through plastic cover-up (which didn’t really do much covering to be completely honest ). We raved about Anggi’s product here and knowing there aren’t many local designers playing in the swimwear pool (pun intended), looks like Twentyforteen could go strong as the pioneer. I just hope Anggi will keep surprising us with those quirky yet delightful details on her swimsuits which made them so unique.

Level One located at Grand Indonesia house twenty something talented, young and uprising new designers. What they all have in common is their creative vision in fashion and that they are all made in Indonesia. I can’t help but feeling real proud last night at the Level One fashion show that showcased these designers collection because in that catwalk last night, it is vividly portray that the fashion industry future for Indonesia is looking very bright at the hands of these young designers. I would like to give them standing applause for showcasing such a magnificent collection on the runway that night! Hopefully, these labels will continuously grow into stronger and bigger ones. Other similarity that these label have is that they all create ready to wear collections where each of them has something new and fresh to be presented to you all. Before I carry on with this post, I must warn you that this post is going to be a photo heavy one! Don’t want to leave anyone behind.

The show opened and closed in a brilliant and fun way by Amink, he wore Kle’s design from the Aftermath collection as he walk on the runway for the first time and closed the second night of the JFW 10/11 with Danjyo and Hiyoji attire. That night apparently was also Amink’s birthday, he got a big birthday congratulatory that night from everyone at the fashion tent.

The first show from Level 1 was Ichwan Thoha and the collection was inspired by the Grand Slam with visor and headband adorning the model’s head. The clean cut and nonchalance feel of this collection really captivated me. The collection was dominated by pastel colours and have that preppy embodiment in it and the dresses slung low on the hips just like those that Sarapova would wear to win the Grand Slam trophy at Roland Garros

Saint and Sinner and Ciel, which share a shop at the Level 1 showed a collection dominated by dresses. Where Saint and Sinner collection was dominated by black and white with sinfully sexy cut, Ciel on the other hand showed a more feminine collection.

Saint and Sinner

Ciel

On the models of Deer’s show, you can see a tree branch adorning their heads which made me immediately realized whose collection it is. The collection showed a lot of earth tone with draped dominating the dresses and most of the pieces had a flowy finish to them (even the pants looked so fluid!). I’m loving the touch of exaggerated sleeve on some of the pieces from them.

There were also various accessories previewed at the fashion show, but we’re most proud when suddenly the graphic at the backdrop of the runway displayed Ayang of Cocomomo picture! The model was toting a clutch that matched her necklace, which I’m sure many of you will ask Ayang right away about its availability, LOL! But anyway, congratulation to Ayang and here is a special present for you, the photo of your creation on stage of the fashion week.

I thought I’ve seen too many good things by the end of the accessories preview. But Geulis and Hunting Field, who were the finalists for last year’s Cleo Fashion Award, really showed the progress of their collection. Geulis collection were dominated by muted colours and had a season transition look to it with lots of outerwear included within the collection. But somehow there’s also a touch of vintage to it with an inclusion of cape and high waisted cut pants and skirts. They still use traditional textile in their collection because after all it’s their signature. Whereas Hunting Field collection, unlike last year collection shown at JFW that was dominated with dark and strong character, was all about drapery and asymmetric cut that was reflected on a pastel-coloured pieces.

Geulis

Hunting Field

For me personally, Monday to Sunday collection didn’t really give me something new as I’ve seen many of the same touch on their previous collection. But that is not to say that their collection wasn’t good! But I wouldn’t mind seeing something totally different from them.

KLe, a brand made by designer Kleting Titis Wigati, who graduated from Istituo Marangoni in Milan, Italy showcased her Fall/Winter Collection 2010/2011 on late July at the Blu Martini, JW Mariott Hotel Jakarta.

Her new design called “The Aftermath” inspired by the effects of the World War II such as economic expansion, postwar recovery difficulties, and renewed conflict lingered on for years afterward. These factors have changed the way people express themselves on fashion and through this collection KLe wants to depict those circumstances.

The collection is dominated by dark and shadowy graphic, solid simple colours such as black, grey and white. You’ll see a lot of narrow high waist, fabric layering, flowy feminine dress, voluminous and soft rounder shoulder as well as dark and shadowy graphic that vividly depicted the postwar situation.

That night the bar at the Blu Martini was turned into a runway. The model walked up and down the bar in their high heels. The makeup the models used were mostly dominated with red lips. If last season we saw variations of pastel coloured corsage necklace, this time the necklace is more subtle. It looks like it consists of two interlinked scarves which gives a nice touch to the collection that are dominated by muted colours.
Considering the economic situation during the post-war era, you can see that the pieces on her collection can be worn separately or layered against each other.
