Hello! I’m super nervous about presenting Today’s Outfit because I did not plan on it being featured here at all! As I rushed to leave the office one evening, our managing editor, DesZell, instructed me to stand in a corner and take photos for my first Today’s Outfit feature. Despite the sad state of affairs my tresses were in, I apprehensively complied because I am an obedient employee, and because I thought you should see this amazing jacket I own from local label Anonymous. It comes in a pale green shade and features oversized peaked lapels, made out of a brocade-ish material that could have totally worked on an episode of Game of Thrones.

Anonymous jacket | Zara blouse | Levi’s jeans | Naturalizer shoes | Emsio bag | Braun Buffel spectacles

Accessorizing an outfit is always fun, and watches are a quick and easy way to jazz up any look, which is why I love this Michael Kors Silver Runway Watch for its versatility and tough vibe. Now I’m not one to spend a lot of money on accessories, so I am very lucky to have a mother with good taste and poor impulse control: she will buy any accessory she takes a fancy to without thinking twice, and then COMPLETELY FORGET that she bought that particular accessory at all (I’m not even kidding. That woman has a cache of flats from Tod’s that she hasn’t worn since she bought them because they’re half a size too small). This is good for me because I end up inheriting everything she leaves on a shelf to collect dust, including designer bags and shoes! I paired my watch with a fun bracelet and ring she picked up somewhere in the bowels of Mangga Dua. Thanks, mama!

The first thought that came to mind for the title of this article was “No Skinny Jeans, Please!” Some hijabers, myself included, really feel ‘unsafe’ about the idea of wearing skinny jeans. The way they hug the legs so tightly shows no sign of modesty at all. The insecurity that skinny jeans bring to hijabers doesn’t stop there. This actually makes sense since we often find ourselves strolling inside different stores and mostly will only find skinny jeans. Of course, there are also flare and straight leg jeans – but they, too, are usually fitted around the thighs.

So, for hijabers, you might want to consider having a collection of boyfriend-style jeans. They guarantee you a looser fit appearance – that won’t fall too tightly around your legs and not as slouchy as wide-legged or flared jeans. You also don’t have to worry that them looking like a pair of oversized jeans and will not complement your figure.

The best thing about boyfriend jeans is that you can pair them up with any short hem tops – which doesn’t happen all the time for hijabers. Boyfriend jeans are perfect for any type of tops that fall short above the hips. As a hijaber, I always feel uneasy wearing jeans or trousers that fit tightly around the crotch and rear area. Not only that this is against the syariah but it also shows too much of your figure. Boyfriend jeans, on the other hand, tend to have a looser fitting that won’t expose those areas.

Personally speaking, I also like these types of jeans for their casual and relaxing mode – a bit grungy-feeling without the ripped style that isn’t exactly my style. Opt for boyfriend jeans that have a cleaner finish, without the distressed and ripped detailing because they will be easier to style.

The challenge is that boyfriend jeans are hard to find, while skinny jeans keep showing up everywhere! To help you choose easily, I’ve helped in selecting the perfect boyfriend jeans for you. Most of them are available in Indonesia or you can buy it easily online. Here are what I came up with:

clockwise from top left: (1-2) GAP, ASOS, Promod, Muji, Levi's

My favourite boyfriend jeans would be Muji’s for their organic denim material and Uniqlo, also for their cushy and soft denim feel – they have such a perfect thickness and well structured. Such a coincidence that they both are Japanese brands, and they’re also pretty affordable. Unfortunately, I can no longer find them in Uniqlo stores or website. While for Muji organic denim can be found in all Muji stores, for around IDR 400,000-500,000.

Uniqlo UJ boyfriend jeans

It has been almost two decades ago that I first had my pair of Levi’s jeans and since the Levi’s 501 is the most iconic jeans from Levi’s – or probably jeans in general – being a teenager that felt the need to belong somewhere, I picked the Levi’s 501 from any other jeans that Levi’s had at that time. They may not be the latest cut and shape, but the silhouette remains a classic that you can still wear today or for years to come without feeling that they’re outdated. I still remember my 501 pair vividly. They were a red pair of jeans and I am not the only one who’s reminiscing with the wide-array of Levi’s 501 colour selections back in the 90′s. Our favourite columnist. @LyndaIbrahim, too shares the same memory with me. But that’s the thing about Levi’s 501. Just with a little touch, you can bring them back to life and give them a touch of trend that is currently happening at the moment. It’s simply because Levi’s 501 jeans are a timeless piece.

So why are Levi’s 501 jeans so iconic? Because they never stop to evolve according to time and adapt to the changes that are faced by different generations. They’re also famous for their toughness and durability and their ability to sort of adapt themselves to the contours of the wearers’ bodies overtime to create a unique classic yet timeless shape of a jeans.

What’s difference with Levi’s 501 at their 140th anniversary? They’re coming out with a non-denim Levi’s 501 collection for the first time, while still embodies the Levi’s 501 gene and tradition, but with a touch of today’s trend.

Without much further ado, here are the Levi’s 501 and the different interpretations of how you could wear them.

I can’t believe that this year is Levi’s 501′s 140th Anniversary. Wow, they’ve been around for long, haven’t they? The model remains a classic and each year there’s always some new refreshing touch to it. Did you know that the Levi’s 501 has also made its way to Time Magazine’s ‘Fashion Item of the 20th Century’?

I remember the first time I bought my pair of Levi’s. It was the 501 jeans dated back to my junior high school years. Wow, that was ages ago. If I had to choose one word to describe it, then it would be ‘timeless’ because I can’t believe that even now, years after I’ve outgrown my Levi’s 501, it’s still here and still in fashion.

To commemorate the 140th Anniversary, Levi’s has made a Levi’s 501 Interpretation campaign to show the many different ways you can wear the jeans. Each to their own, when it comes to styling this jeans. Everyone wears it differently. Through this campaign, they’re collaborating with renowned Indonesian street art artist, Darbotz, at five strategic locations in Jakarta: Central Park Mall, Pondok Indah Mall, Grand Indonesia, Tebet and Kemang. The campaign for Jakarta was held from 8-24 March 2013, where in each of these locations there’s one street art installment placed representing the characteristics of Levi’s 501.

Tough, timeless, dynamic, freedom and awesome are the five words that depict Levi’s 501 perfectly. Each is translated vividly into a state of the art creation by Darbotz, known for his signature ‘squid’ mark on his work. It’s a different medium altogether that Darbotz is working on here, but you can still see the trail of his signature – also the squid signature, though very subtly – on all the five installations.

Though the campaign in Jakarta has ended, but the one in Bandung is just about to begin, starting from 29 March – 14 April 2013. There are going to be lots of prizes throughout the campaign conducted through @LevisID, where you could also get the information of the locations of the installation, as well as the terms and conditions. Be sure to check it out, ladies.

I’m entering my third year with Fashionese Daily and as happiness meter goes, mine has risen up quite exponentially. So is my weight! I can’t fit into my old pair of jeans anymore and I have been in denial for the last one year. I thought, there will come a time where I can slip back into the old pair of jeans. But no, after waiting for a year or so, that day never really came. Admitting defeat is very tough, but then I celebrated it with finding my next pair of perfect jeans and bought them!

Where else other than Levi’s would I go for the perfect pair of jeans, right? I love their CurveID line, because there’s always a perfect pair of jeans for every body type. Whether you don’t have a curvy body type or you’re on the other side of the spectrum with a real bold curve. What I love about Levi’s jeans is also because they have jeans for every personality. Jeans don’t always have to be casual and slouchy. They can also be sleek to be worn to a semi-casual event.

A closer look of my bag and shoes. I’m also wearing a Tissot watch, which I need to feature soon on Tuesday Timepiece

Biar kelihatannya masih muda, gitu. Haha.

Black Shawl Aunty Can | Black Biker Jacket | Unbranded White Top | Levi’s Curve ID Skinny Jeans | Rubi Black Boots | Nyai Indonesia Gheeta Bag

I envy people that can wear skinny jeans with ease. I have big hips and thigh, so for me, it seems impossible to wear skinny jeans and look good!

But then I came across this great news that Levi’s just recently launched a new selection for their CurveID line, the ankle skinny. Why am I so excited? Let me take you back to 2010 where Levi’s launched their CurveID line, where jeans is all about shape, not size!

Levi’s has created a way to find the perfect jeans for women according to their body shape, not size. There are three customs fits, identified as the most common body types that will allow women to find their perfect fit. Levi’s store staff will help you find your perfect jeans by measuring your natural waist, hip and seat and the difference between them.

There are three types of Levi’s CurveID jeans available: Slight Curve, Demi Curve and Bold Curve. To know more about the different type of CurveID and the different shape, you can read Affi’s article.

The ankle skinny range is a new addition to the already wide range of selection of CurveID. My previous Levi’s CurveID jeans is also a skinny jeans. But because I have to cut off the length, it looks more like a tapered jeans rather than a skinny jeans. So I’m excited with this version of ankle skinny jeans since I don’t have to alter it anymore, because it’s going to fall right in my ankle. I can also roll it up if I want to have that cropped jeans look.

The skinny jeans comes in two different finishes: shallow (not available in Bold Curve) and abyss. I’m currently eyeing the ankle skinny in abyss finish because it has a nice dark colour and not too much wash out colour. The retail price is Rp 599,000.

Abyss and Shallow finish of Levi’s Curve ID Ankle Skinny

Not only finishes, but the ankle skinny also comes in different variety of colours! So, if you’re looking for that colourful skinny jeans, you definitely need to check this new addition to Levi’s CurveID. They’re only available in Demi Curve, but I say, give it a go! The fabric comes in a super soft stretch fabric, that’s definitely will fall nicely in your body and it cost only Rp 549,900. Unlike any other coloured jeans in the market that looks that the dye is overly saturated and the colours are too bold, Levi’s coloured finishes have that soft faded look that is achieved through over-dye enzyme wash, resulting in that soft hand feel.

Sunset Coral, Snorkel Blue, Buckwhear and Summer Black

Upon seeing these cheerful colour, I can’t say I’m not tempted. I’ll definitely give it a try next time I pass by Levi’s store. But my heart still beats for the one with abyss finish.

What about you? Does any of these jeans scream for your name?

It was one fine day when I stepped into the office just to find out Nopai was wearing a similar outfit as I. From the shirt, the jeans and even the necklace. So what can we do but took picture? (right after comparing each other’s items, of course )

It was a nice coincidence that we had lunch at dia.lo.gue at Kemang that day. The restaurant-slash-gallery not only serves delicious food (not too many options, though) and sells nice stuff, it also happens to have many beautiful spots for picture taking. Oh, by the way, the picture above is my most favorite dish there. Grilled chicken with pesto pasta. Sorry.. can’t help but post it

And so here I present you, the splurge and steal of Female Daily Crew Today’s Outift.

On Me

White Shirt: Bought it in Mama Leon Factory Outlet in Bali for Rp. 149,000. I actually bought the shirt for my boyfriend, but apparently it’s too small for him. So I am the one who end up wearing it all the time.
Skinny Jeans: Unbranded, bought it from a friend for Rp. 99,000
Bag: Lauren Bag from Ciciero Rp. 280,000
Shoes: Michael Michael Kors Rp. 999,000
Watch: Levi’s. Got it from a press event. Rp. 0 (the perks of working in a media:))
Turquoise Necklace: A gift from Syita from her trip to India Rp. 0
Total: Rp. 1,527,000

A closer look on the Lauren bag by Ciciero

On Nopai
White Shirt: Kle Rp 75,000
Skinny Jeans: GAP around Rp 800,000
Bag: Louis Vuitton Palermo GM, she bought it in Germany for € 1080 or around Rp. 13,000,000
Shoes: Jeffrey Campbell Rp 1,300,000
Watch: Tag Heuer Aqua Racer, she bought it years ago where it was still around Rp 6,000,000 and now it’s probably cost more than Rp 11,000,000. So you see, buying a good watch is actually an investment if you consider how much the price keeps going up every year. Especially the classic ones, they’re worth every penny that you part with.
Turquoise Necklace: Banana Republic Rp 1,100,000
Total: Rp 22,275,000

It was so sunny that day, Nopai also took her favorite sunglasses by Marc by Marc Jacobs. I like the color that is neutral and the shape that is simple. She got it ages ago from Optik Melawai, so I don’t think they still have it in stock.

There’s another similarity between our outfit that day. Not only that we wore the same style of outfit, but we actually bought our shoes at Rococo! The pairs that we got are actually from their recent collection, but we love to visit their outlet, Rococo Rack located at Dharmawangsa Square, every once in a while to snatch a steal.

Upon seeing this post, don’t you think skinny jeans and white shirt are two must haves items in your wardrobe?

People might not associate Steve Jobs with fashion. But he has created some impressive, revolutionary and most importantly, stylish gadgets that are also considered as must have accessories.

Being featured in so many publications, people could not help but noticing his signature style. Black turtleneck, blue jeans and sneakers. So what’s exactly the brands he used to wear? Most of the time it’s St. Croix black long-sleeved mock turtleneck, a pair of (mostly worn-out) Levi’s 501 (never belted) and grey New Balance M991 running shoes.

Even though there are some pictures of Jobs wearing the black turtleneck on his younger days, people started to associate him with the signature outfits when he wore them during Apple event in March 1998, as he started to wear the same items in almost every Apple event, and some other events, too, ever since.

Jobs in Apple event 1998

Steve Jobs had been fighting pancreatic cancer since 2004, yet he kept on working and creating magnificent products until he finally announced his resignation in August 2011. Judging from the pictures, we know that he’d been fighting it very hard.

I remembered telling my boyfriend how thin he looked on iPad 2 launch in March 2011, and of course I know better than to blame it to bad fitted clothes.

Steve Jobs once said “I want to put a ding in the universe”. No doubt he has.

And if there’s someone who deserves a peaceful rest, Steve Jobs’ name will be on the top of the list. Thank you Mr. Jobs, for stopping by and share us your life.

If you talked about jeans, it’s impossible not to mention Levi’s. For the first time in their 138 years history as a brand, Levi’s launched a global campaign, titled “Now is Our Time, Go Forth!” True to the brand image, they appeal to the young generation with their pioneering spirit that believes the future is in their own hands and that they can make it better.

Not only known for their craftsmanship, Levi’s is also known for their breakthrough innovation. Last year, they brought a change to the world of Women’s jeans by introducing Levi’s Curve ID where buying a jeans is not a matter of size anymore, but it’s all about shape. It doesn’t hurt that by embracing different shapes of women’s body, my jeans coms in a smaller size. I’m even happier to part with my money for a smaller sized jeans

At the Men’s section, at the beginning of this year, Levi’s introduced their latest innovation with Water<Less finishing where this process will reduce the use of water in the making of Levi’s jeans.

We can’t wait to see more innovation from Levi’s, but for now, let’s check out their latest collection. Planning to get a pair of jeans anytime soon, ladies?

Remember this post? Hanzky showed us her outfits for 7 consecutive days where she wore a local label/product every single day. Deszell and I actually gave ourselves the same challenge and I completed mine months ago, but because the pictures were taken using different cameras by different people, when it came to posting them, some pics were missing

This time I was determined to start over and made sure the photos are transferred into my laptop right after I took them and I did it! Here are my outfits from 8th of June – 15th of June 2011!

Day 1

I decided to kick up the challenge by wearing several local products in one outfit on the first day. I actually didn’t go anywhere and just stayed in the office all day long which made everyone ask “Where are you going all dressed up today?” Mental note: must make sure I dress up nicely everyday.

XSML top

Levi’s jeans

Go Jane booties

House of Leather bag

Alun-Alun Indonesia necklace

Topshop bangles

Day 2

I had a meeting at Citos about an exciting Mommies Daily project, which we’ll reveal soon. We had lunch Go Curry after the meeting, which totally had nothing to do with my outfits, I just wanted to tell you how I love the green curry there

XSML top

Guess jeans

Miu Miu shoes

House of Leather bag

vintage necklace

Charles & Keith sunnies

Hellolulu laptop bag

Day 3

It was an easy breezy Friday at the office which explains my outfit, which wouldn’t look out of place in the streets of Seminyak That day was also Syita‘s birthday and there was so much food in the office I thought my stomach was going to explode!

Cotton dress from Bali

Batten Clothing shoulder cape

H&M sandals

Origo bracelet

Day 4

Hanzky and I were speaking at Startup Lokal Meet Up at JCC that day. The topic was about building community and of course we proudly talked about our own wonderful community Sharing about this topic always makes me feel alive and I could feel passion running through every vein in my body. That’s how much I love my job!

Geulis cropped blazer

Warehouse black tank top

Levi’s jeans

Go Jane booties

Jim Thompson bag

vintage necklace

Day 5

It was a Sunday! I attended a country fair at my nephew’s school at British International School and it was such a fun day! There were games, performances, bazaar, etc and Aluf had a great time too. But it was also very hot there, which made me glad I decided to just dress in white tee and jeans

Cotton Ink shirt

Unbranded denim

H&M sandals

Day 6

I actually didn’t have to go anywhere that day but I found this shift dress which I’ve owned for 5-6 years yet I only wore 4 times. Since it’s from a local label, I decided to take it outside. As it turned out, I received a happy news that day. I was shortlisted as one of the finalists for International Young Creative Entrepreneur 2011 in both Interactive and Fashion sectors! If I win it (knock on wood), I will compete for the international title in London! Isn’t that exciting?

Vesperine shift dress

Etcetera tank top

Zoe Wittner wedges

Necklace a gift from my best friend

Day 7

I was planning to go to a party that day but suddenly found myself inundated with work so I decided to skip it and do an overtime instead. But as you can see, I already sort of dressed for a party

Milcah top

Marks & Spencer pencil skirt

Guess shoes

Tiffany and Origo bracelet

Sandblasted jeans might be an item that can be found in many people’s closet. But don’t ever think to add a new pair of sandblasted jeans because this fashion item turned out to be dangerous for workers and is banned gradually by several jeans manufacturers. Why? It is banned to protect the workers involved in the process from serious health risk. It may cause a fatal lung disease known as silicosis.

According to Women’s Wear Daily, 40 garment factory workers involved in the denim sandblasting process died in Turkey from 2005 to 2009. Another 7,000 workers were exposed and became prominent to get lung disease. Really sad to know that this happened when these people only tried to make a living

Levi’s and H&M had set good example for other jeans companies. They had eliminated sandblasting process from their production since last year. Now they have planned to work together with the International Textile Garment & Leather Workers’ Federation (ITGLWF) to draft a manifesto banning the use of sandblasting in denim, in order to convince other brands to eliminate it.

“What we have done is try to get main brands around the world to the table to start a discussion with them [about the health risks associated with the sandblasting process] and see if they would agree to sign a voluntary agreement banning sandblasting,” said Itschert, a representative from ITGLWF. “At the first meeting, a vast majority agreed, but some others were not at that stage yet.”

The ITGLWF hopes to reach out to governments in other countries that produce denim, including China, Pakistan and Bangladesh, and others in Asia, Central America and the Mediterranean region. “Once the ban is in place in one country, they just to move to other ones. We want to go to countries where jeans are produced and tell them that sandblasting kills.”

So, as a consumer, you know what to do right, guys? Stop buying sandblasted jeans. When there’s no more demand for it, hopefully denim manufacturers will stop producing them for good. They don’t even look good anyway!

We were half way to go to on the Jakarta Fashion Week and the fourth day is where our stamina started going downhill. But the show were all awesome so we all went with much anticipation waiting what’s going to be shown in front of us. Not only that day we were going to see parade from the uprising talent from the Cleo Fashion Award at the end of the day, but to start the day there was the show by ESMOD graduates. There were also shows by member of APPMI which begins with the muslim fashion, although there weren’t that many compared with last year because of various of technical reason, but the quality is of no match. I’m sure many of the hijab outfitters will be dying to see the photos from the show, don’t worry we’ll try to keep make them available on the Muslim Outfitters thread once the JFW craze has cooled down. There were also cocktail wear presentation by APPMI that were divided into two days, that day and the next. Not to forget the Sunsilk Walk of Creations during the night.

We all shared our difficulties in finding the perfect jeans here and of course there is one question running through our minds: is there a solution?

There might be one. Please read on if you find it hard to believe.

So last week I was invited to the launch of Levi’s® new line of custom-fit jeans, called Curve ID. What is Curve ID and how does it help you to find YOUR perfect jeans? Levi’s® Curve ID, utilizes a revolutionary fit system based on shape, not size and was created as a result of studying more than 60,000 body scans and listening to women around the world of all shapes and sizes.

Through this research, Levi’s® designers created a new approach to measuring a woman’s body and identified three distinct body types that account for 80 percent of women’s shapes universally. The three Levi’s® Curve ID fits are based on these universal body types.

“Since we created our first women’s jeans 75 years ago, no one has changed the formula for finding the perfect fit,” said Eden Bunag, Country Manager, Levi’s® Indonesia. Meanwhile Indah Sariva, Product Manager Levi’s® Indonesia said, “Our revolutionary approach looks beyond waist size to address the true curves of a woman’s entire body. We’ve created three custom fits that address a range of body shapes, allowing women to find their perfect fit and ultimately helping them feel confident and sexy in their jeans.”

Those three custom fits are:

Slight Curve – designed to celebrate straight figures

Slight Curve is designed to define a woman’s waist, while accentuating her curves. If jeans usually fit in the hips and thighs but are too tight in the waist, a woman should try the Slight Curve.

Demi Curve – designed to fit even proportions

Demi Curve is designed to flatter a woman’s waist, while smoothing her shape. If jeans usually fit in the waist, but don’t flatter the figure, a woman should try the Demi Curve.

Bold Curve – designed to honor genuine curves

Bold Curve is designed to hug the waist, without gapping or pulling. If jeans usually fit in the hips and thighs, but gap in the back, a woman should try the Bold Curve.

So how would you know which type of fit you should wear? Easy. Just go to any Levi’s® store, and their trained staff will be glad to take your measurements and let you know which Curve ID you belong to.

During the event, we saw some models walked around wearing Curve ID jeans in all sorts of leg shapes and washes, and as much as I admit that the jeans seemed to be fitting them perfectly, I couldn’t help but thinking..well they are models! What about real people with not-so-proportional body? What about real women who may not have their towering heights? What about them? What about me?? *drama queen*

As if hearing my frustration, the MC, Novita Angie, invited six guests to come on stage to be measured. I was one of those people (I swear I didn’t raise my hand but I guess she saw my miserable face hahaha). Six of us were measured and then we were informed of which Curve ID we should get. Afterwards we were ushered to the back of the stage and were asked to try on the jeans! My fit was Demi Curve and I was asked to try on a pair of dark, skinny jeans. I couldn’t believe my eyes but they actually looked good on me! The jeans hugged my curves without making my thighs look like sausage casing Not only does it look good, they were also very comfortable, it felt like my second skin. The only problem was the waist felt a little tight, but I’m optimistic that by the end of Ramadhan, it will fit better!

When we came back to the stage, everybody commented on how nice the jeans looked on me which made me want to run to the nearest Levi’s® store and get them! Too bad I couldn’t find any picture of me wearing the jeans from that night, but I will definitely wear them on future Today’s Outfit pictures

Vanya actually did go to the store a couple of days after the event and tried on several pairs of jeans. She was told to wear Demi Curve and tried on the straight, skinny and boot cut ones and every single pair fits her perfectly! Now if anyone knows me and Vanya, you’ll know that both of us possibly have the hardest times finding jeans that fit our curvy bodies. So of course we are delighted

By the way, all Levi’s® Curve ID are available in different leg shapes (straight, skinny, boot cut, etc), washes (light, medium, dark, black & grey, etc) so you will find the jeans that not only suit your shapes, but your style and personality as well. All models are available from size 24 to size 32.

Okay, now that I’ve told you all about Levi’s® Curve ID, I want to give you a chance to try them yourself. We have 3 vouchers from Levi’s®, each with Rp. 500,000 value and you’ll only need to do the following:

- Write down what you think your Curve ID is (Slight Curve, Demi Curve or Bold Curve) – just take a guess – and which leg shape and wash you want your new jeans to be.

For example: I think I will fit Bold Curve and I want them to be a dark, straight leg! (you don’t have to follow that exact format, be as creative as you can!)

We will select 3 winners using a random generator and make the announcement on Thursday evening, which three lucky participants will get their “Lebaran” present

Yes, you can start now! Good luck!
